Massive Groove- Okay, so how does it paddle?
by Shawn Reese
Now that I am thinking about pulling the trigger and buying a Massive Groove...

How does it paddle compared to a Dagger Atom?
Faster, slower, sic'er???

My weight is about 165lbs, 5'5"
My saddle height in my Atom is VERY high, 10+ inches.
Physically, my body just does not collapse.
My center of gravity is high, so it's like I am a bigger dude. No problem, I just deal.

Since this thing is supposed to be wider, I was thinking I would be more stable....

Grooviness
by Sir Adam of Groove
Greetings...

The Groove is not a stable boat in the sense more are used to. It stalls easily, and has sharp edges. It must be paddled aggressively, yet with constant knowledge of exactly where you're "balance" point is. A higher saddle would make it very interesting....

That said, it is the highest performance C1 playboat I know of, and it can do tricks few other boats can (although with it's low volume ends some of the aerial stuff will be out of your reach).

My advice-find a ForPlay. Put a 10" saddle in it. The Groove will be MUCH edgier and less forgiving, but it has a similar feel to it.

If I can answer any more specific Q's let me know. The Groove is truely a great boat, but it is not easy to paddle, especially river-running....

You have to "get in the Groove"!

I paddled both a glass Groove (courtesy of "Sir Adam") and a Riot plastic prototype and I also own and paddle an Atom. I do not compare the two boats. The way to look at a Groove is that it is a short squirt boat with more volume around the center of the boat. At 165, you are at a high, but reasonable, weight range; however, your tall saddle will definitely throw your balance way off. Since the boat is short with VERY sharp edges, you want to sit with your center of gravity lower. Otherwise, you will never get off a brace to paddle.

Adam had a good recommendation if you cannot get comfortable with a lower saddle. Remember that most c-1 boats have their saddles anywhere from 5 1/1" to 7" average height. BTW, what specifically makes it difficult for you to sit lower than 10"? I am sure we can come up with a string of posts to help you remedy the height issue.
