Hi everyone, I'm going to be in Odenton, MD starting in january for 8 months or so and I'm looking for folks to boat with. I took some classes under Chris (C1Kelly) and Tim's (timzjatl) tutelage this past semester and am looking to run class 3 stuff (once my drytop comes in in january anyway.) Also, does anyone know of a pool session near Odenton (or Fort Meade if Odenton isn't a big enough landmark)? Thanks

MD

Well, your humble co-webmaster/hostmaster lives in the DC area, but unfortunately I'm not terribly tied into the boating community. Welcome to the area though. :)

Check out

www.monocacycanoe.org

There are links for the CCA & GBCC, both of which have pool sessions near you, & trip scheds & contacts. The MCC message board is the informal info board for the area.

digital brat's suggestion is the best. Everyone there seems to be friendly and helpful.
When the weather warms (I'm a wimp and a skier) and you think about a little road trip to the Yough PM me and we can get together. See on the water. Paul C.

We haven't been on the forum much lately but I happened to check out your post and wanted to send a reply. There's a bunch of us c-people in the area. (Frederick, DC,Balt) Although we normally boat all year we've not been on the water once this season and will probably head back out when it gets warmer. The BEST roll session in the area in my opinion (cuz there's 2 pools and not many people!!) is the Fairland Aquatic Center in Laurel, MD which isn't too far at all from Odenton. They're held on Sat.'s well into the month of April- check out the Monocacy Canoe club website under Roll sessions for dates and times-you'll need to check in w/a woman named Joan Spinner to "register" to be there. Her number and/or email should be posted. Starting after the holidays we'll most likely be hitting some of the roll sessions so we could hook up and meet you there. We've a variety of boats we could bring to demo as well.
We have a passel of at least 5 in our group who both C-1 and OC-1 and there are many more wonderful folks in the area. Please feel free to contact us anytime and welcome to the area!

thanks for the reply Tess :) in case I'm at the same roll session as your crew, I'll be the guy who looks like a hippy (assuming work doesn't make me cut my hair) and is paddling a yellow atom
