Heres a twist for this forum...
I want to write mythes MBA is as a business plan for opening up a canoe rental and shuttle business. Any information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Anything on location, cost, equipment, liability, contacts? I know its an odd topic for a thesis but I chose it because I might also consider this as a real business venture depending on my findings.
Thanks,
Paul

Hmmm
I'd say pick the area you're thinking of and call some outfitters. If you're thinking of the Adirondacks I can point you to a few, but I don't know any down in MD....
Keep the C!

year-round and steady draw
I think if you want to run a really profitable enterprise you would have to consider something year round--Florida--and rivers that attract a steady flow of tourists or other outsided enthusiasts that can easily manage the water and conditions.
If you are looking for a really good model I would suggest canoe escapes, located on the Hillsborough river near Tampa. Try a search on the H. river, canoe escapes, Brian Faulk. They have a huge livery a canoes and kayaks ( a decent quality royalex canoe fleet and kayaks of decent quality). They also sell Bell and other good quality canoes and other kayaks. The Hillsbourough and surrounding rivers are really quite beautiful with lots of alligators and other wildlife--and easily managed by beginners.
Seems like they are always very busy. The obvious problem would be finding a buying a business in such a good location--without the competitors like canoe escapes.
When I visited the place I thought that wow, this would be a pretty good business. Rental and shuttles on whitewater would sure be more fun for the owner when he or she has time to paddle. But.. the liability and potential for problems would be higher and most of these rivers run seasonally.
