Did anybody else see the new article called "Open Boat, Open Mind" in the newest Whitewater Magazine (an offshoot of Paddler Magazine, I believe)? It was an article by an author I had never heard of and whose name I can't recall. THe article was about how much he enjoyed the recent open boat slalom nationals on the Blackfoot in Montana. It had a couple of nice pictures too. Looks like a nice place.
Yall open boaters better be careful or you are going to wind up forever stereotyped . . . people will see you ace a drop and chalk it up to alcohol. They will start to say things like, "Open boat, open beer."
haha. just teasing (as if from my nimbler and drier boat)

"Closed boat, closed mind"
"Open boats, rafts . . . same thing"

Which mag had the article?
I don't know of any Whitewater Magazine that is an offshoot from Paddler. Where did you get your hands on the mag or did you read it online?
it's an annual special edition from them
I thought the article was pretty lame, maybe it was someone's effort at humor?
Who know's maybe it's just me not getting it...

I found the magazine in Barnes and Noble. They actually have a really good selection of kayak magazines. The "Whitewater" one only comes out once in a blue moon. I especially love the new Kayak Session Magazine.
It is funny to read about these great adventures while sitting in the middle of Barnes and Noble/Starbucks. I recall reading Jan's article while in the store and reflecting that Jan probably lives in some British Columbia town where they do not even have a bookstore to display the magazine.

Yeah IO read the article and I am from Montana and was up there. I agree that it somewhat paints a drunk picture of us OCer's but at the same time it shows how much fun we have we take the sport seriously but we still can sit back and laugh and have a good time.
bottom line we had a blast and someone decided to write an article about how much fun we had not just who one the whole thing.
Keep boatn' and keep it real. just remember to imbibe off the river and stay sober on the river
