Little Rock area Paddling Scene

Post by David Good »

I may have a chance to move to the Little Rock area to advance my career, what is the paddling scene like there?

To me, it looks like mostly creeking and very seasonal. Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,

David

David, I do most of my paddling in Arkansas, and you are right. It is very seasonable. There is one exception, however. About 30 miles southwest of LR at Malvern is a great playspot known as Rockport Ledge. This link to a newspaper article should tell you all you need to know about it:

The best WW is in the Arkansas Ozarks in the NW part of the state. Most of the runs are in national forest and are A+ in water quality and natural beauty. But you have to catch them while they are up. Only a handfull of the larger creeks/rivers stay up more than a couple of days without continuous dousings of rain.

All in all, there will be plenty of paddling opportunities for you in The Natural State, so don't leave your boat behind when you move.
