A maven (also mavin or mayvin) is an expert in a particular field, usually one who is self-appointed and who seeks to pass his knowledge on to others.
literally the word guru means teacher
The software representation of a person as the person appears to others in a shared virtual universe. The avatarmay or may not resemble an actual person.
And what, pray tell, did your research show "pain boater" to mean .
The "ranks" are really just there for fun, as are the avatars. I did put A LITTLE (very little) thought into what the ranks were, and what the number of posts to achieve a rank were, but if anyone has further suggestions I'm certainly open to it!

P.S. The "C Maven" designation was more a play on the boat I'm building than anything else. While I have read A LOT about CBoating (as in EVERY POST on this board and the old one) (as have many others), and talked to quite a few "experts", I'm more of one that enjoys passing knowledge on than a real expert...I know many folks that squirt better than i do, creek better than I do, and certainly slalom better than i do (not to mentioned wildwater boating...), but I do make a point to enjoy each aspect of CBoating (yes, even the occasional OC ).

For the C Boater this never occurs, not should it be expected to occur. If it does occur use barbed wire for thigh straps
