Eye surgery?

Post by Jan_dettmer »

Any of you guys had laser eye surgery?
I wear glasses normally and it sucks for winter paddling. I might get eye surgery next week if everything goes well.

I am wondering: How long after did you start paddling? (with swim goggles)

Cheers, Jan
Is there something like an expert kayaker?

Eye surgery

Post by Wendy »

Jan, I had AK/RK surgery years ago (>10), then a few years ago I got a dry eye, followed by a corneal scratch, followed by an abcess of the anterior chamber and near loss of the eye. BE careful. Ask the opth. when they consider the scars well healed. I don't regret the surgery, but I am now very cautious in the water. That infection took 1 month of intense therapy, 4 eye surgeries, followed by shingles. as avid boaters think twice since the water is always risky for infection.

when they did my wife's eyes. I wear glasses, and I do not have the courage to let them do it to me. She is happy with the results. I thought it was cool that the doctor saw her each day, for 30 days to make sure everything was good.

Another option to consider is soft contacts.
