shipping a glass boat?

Post by Aric »

So I stumbled across and won an acrobat on ebay, now I need have it shipped to me. A plastic boat I would just wrap in bubble wrap and or cardboard. How should a glass boat be shipped? The seller sugested greyhound for the actual shipping, but acording to their website its too long. Any sugestions? How fragile will the boat be, Ive only paddled plastic.

thanks

i bought my glass zealot over ebay as well, from georgia, and what the seller did was to heavily wrap the ends in fairly hard packing foam, and give them alot of protection, and then tape that into the bubble wrap around the hull like 4-5 layers of huge bubble wrap, and more insulation like foam over the cockpit area. and it turned out fine. just make sure to have the seller write fragile, do not set things on, etc..
and i went with forward air or DHL, and it was like 110 bucks to come 2000 miles. not super cheap, but it got here safely.
there are other ways for sure, but air freight seemed like the way to go.
hope the boat works out.
cheers

Wrap it in 2 layers of 3/4" bubblewrap and then strap a piece of cardboard to the bottom. Keeping the package lightweight, helps the freight handlers to move it around easily. Also write "top load only" on the package and the bill of lading.

Kaz does this more than I, so I'd listen to him. However, I had my Zealot shipped via Forward Air from Pittsburgh to JFK (NYC) for less than $100, including materials (bubble wrap). The seller just wrapped it in bubble wrap as Kaz described, but didn't use the cardboard.
