Kaelan Paton (son of Dave Paton) dies in rescue attempt

Dave Paton was a member of the US slalom team (C-2) back in the 80s with Mark Clarke, and raced OC-2 and OC-1 over the years.
My thoughts are with the family.

Tragic.
Here is a picture from a local paper of rescuers rappelling down to the base of Great Falls on the Housatonic, where a bunch of high school students decided to go swimming. The Hous was at very high levels, about 4000 cfs, due to lots of rain here. Two students were rescued from the many scoured-out caves at the base of the falls, but Paton disappeared into the sediment-filled waters.
