Frankie Hubbard?

Post by lung »

Is there any footage out there of Frankie Hubbard boating around? I've heard allot about how he had a great paddling style. I would like to see it.

It's weird to me that there is so little information on Frankie Hubbard on the interweb when so many people are in love with his boat designs. Why is that?

+1... For those of that really got into canoeing after he passed, he is very much a mystery man.

Kind of makes you appreciate how much more information is available with digital cameras, the internet, etc..., doesn't it?

Newer canoe designs, and current companies with canoe designs there is a lot of info for us to pull for this site. Older designs - even early 90's, let alone 80's, 70's, or 60's, it is what folks recall and any old literature I can get my hands on.

Same goes for paddlers. I've seen images of John Berry boating in his prime (WOW), but am not aware of any footage of him paddling either. And in general "back then" races and competitions were more likely to have been taped.

The internet really has changed the world - even an "unplugged" activity like CBoating.

If I'm not mistaken there's about 15 seconds of him at the beginning of Cumnock's 'Steep Creekin' catching a smooth backsurf in an Ocoee... on the Ocoee.

I remember seeing him at some of the first slalom races I went to up on the Nat and the Tuck - if we have any video, its on decades old VHS. He was smooth - he had to be or he couldn't have kept his cigarette lit!

Frankie was one of a kind - It was a special day when he had a new design on the water testing it out.
