Big waterfalls on OC1

I am relatively new to open boating (actually only paddled one twice), although I just picked up a probe 12, so please forgive me if I sound like an idiot. I was wondering why we dont see many bigger waterfalls being run in an OC1. I have seen some footage from central/south america with some larger drops (cant remember the videos) but other than that I really havent seen much footage or pictures. Is it the physical geometry of an OC1 vs a Kayak that deters people? Or is it the more apparent layed back attitude of open boaters? could it be that open boating is not as popular out west where it seems there are more big drops? I hope Im not coming across as dumb or uneducated but I love watching kayakers run bigger drops and think it would be great to see some open boaters do the same.

I am a photographer and would love to film/photograph some big drops at sometime. I live in Asheville, NC and know there is some big water around here (narrows come to mind) so if anyone has any secred drops or places they have been wanting to run I would love to be there to document it.

It's a matter of numbers. OC1ers are running the large steaming pile of dog doo... just not at the frequency of kuyakers, because there are so much more of them. As far as Open-boaters out west...they are a very rare breed.

Right now the hot spots are the southeast, PA/NJ, and eastern canada.

And as far as 'Big waterfalls' are concerned... There seems to be a plateau happening around 50ft - where auto-ejections are happening out of outfitting.

We're getting there...

Its great to see the progression. My dad paddled when we were younger and I have always been drawn to the asthetic aspect of OC1. Just purchased my first boat and am excited to start progressing through the classes. As a photographer I am also excited about integrating myself into the community both as a boater and someone to document the sport. I hope to start documenting some of these drops in my area and if anyone has a line they just love to run or a line they have had their eye on I would love to be there to photograph it.
