Anyone know what river Bill Mason's "Path of the Paddle" was filmed on?

It's my understanding that there are two ways to control the direction of your boat - going faster than the current or going slower than the current. The compound backstroke I mentioned slows my hullspeed, allowing me to then correct my direction with a forward stroke. But I'm paddling this Sunday, ...

I guess what I mean to say is my back stroke acts as a backferry(with the stern pointed left) moving the boat left and away from the object in question. Then a quick forward stroke moves me clear. I'm also working on my off side sideslip. Like I said, this seems to work fine for me in class II water...

eubie- I found your question to be very interesting, along with all the answers to your post. Over the past year, as I began paddling bigger water, I also found I was experiencing the same problem. For me, however, it was a rock I was trying to avoid, not a hole. If I went to the right, my onside, n...

Thank you everyone for your input. We paddled this past Sunday, he demo'd the boat, loved it, and bought it (as I knew he would). The most important part of all this, aside from his being happy with his new(used) toy, is he's excited to come out again and paddle with me, as opposed to spending most ...

To reply regarding his paddling skills - He's a solid class II paddler, knows how to roll but is not really comfortable doing it. Most of the stuff we paddle are small creeks and rivers in NJ, although he would like to start doing bigger stuff. His main complaint about not paddling more regularly is...

Dagger RPM
My son is looking to buy a used Dagger RPM. He currently paddles a Pyrana H3 and complains it's too tight. He's 5'9" and weighs 190lbs. He says the Dagger feels comfortable, but I'm not totally convinced he just wants to spend money. Anyone know anything about the RPM's performance? Thanks!

I belong to a canoe club here in NJ and have just been elected a governing member. One of the things I plan on making noise about is the lack of "youth" in our membership. Yes, the majority of those in the club paddling canoes have gray hair. Joining with a family membership, I have tried to get bot...
