cboaters and boating around Newport, RI

Hey Folks
I'm interviewing around now since I'm about to graduate and I've been invited to interview in Newport. Any of y'all familiar with the boating scene around there or I guess the Boston metro area too? Thanks!

Thanks for the responses all! I forgot to mention one very important thing, this would be on the inside of a plastic boat (Large Flirt) instead of a composite boat (my bad, sorry!). If I remember right, the thin foam layer was to make it so that a crease wouldn't form at the edge of the glass or car...

glass/carbon lay-up to stiffen hull?

Hey folks Anyone tried laying some glass or carbon fiber on the inside of the base of their c1's hull to stiffen it? Methods I've heard about (but never seen) involve laying down a layer of 1/8" foam and then a layer or two of glass or carbon over that, but I haven't been able to get any info direct...

I was in an OC1 for the first trip in the whitewater canoe class I took, but moved into a cascade from there and OC1 is just a novelty for me now :P

I had a dagger kingpin 6.3 that had 56 gallons and it wasn't enough for me at 215 lbs. (probably 220 w/ gear) I've got a large flirt now and it's pretty much perfect (and I'm closer to 210-215 w/ gear now), it definitely has a lot more than the advertised 58 gallons because I put it next to my buddy...

I'm 6'2" and ~215, learned how to C1 in a cascade, and now paddle an H3:255 it's not a playboat, but it's an easier transition than going from a cascade to a spud boat (I already made that mistake, killed my paddling confidence, doh!) pros: better secondary stability easier to manuever (doesn't have...

I use an airliner seatbelt and it works pretty well, definitely doesn't slip, really easy to release
the old VW seatbelts are similar to the airliner belts and probably easier to find on a VW enthusiast parts site
