Aw come on, slashers are amazing fun. I just did the king of NY race on the black in a slasher. Whoever got that boat is a lucky man.

Does the OC-1 class have a significant difference from the C-1 class with the current rules? That's basically the question that would decide if it should exist separate or be merged. As of now, I don't see a huge difference especially considering the popularity of converted kayak hulls.

Straps you can just use seatbelt or inch tubular webbing. Buckles, aircraft buckles off ebay are the most reliable (make sure they're aluminum). Speak for yourself, at 6'3" and 70kg when I started c1ing I was unable to fit comfortably into a k1 playboat appropriate for my weight, however with a 5+in saddle I can have all day comfort in any boat (i expect that to change as I age)

yep, you're basically putting all your effort into your paddle. Same deal as a kayak, the hip snap rotates your boat to an upright position and your resistance of your paddle allows you to lift your body upright.
