Re: Interesting Question from a Long Time Paddling Friend
started canoeing in the early 90's (tandem) class II. Then graduated to solo in the late 90's, became an instructor and was paddling class III and occasionally IV when a close call on Upper Richland Creek took some of the starch out of me. I wouldn't mind getting back on some harder water but my sho...

Re: General Canoeing Technique Advice
Get together with Shep. although self taught may occasionally work for some, it takes much longer and usually leads to bad habits which are hard to overcome.

Re: An Honest Salesman
I think a high performance canoe for whitewater must have a good degree of initial stability, and any canoe that has poor initial stability is going to hold most paddlers back. No matter how experienced they are. Initial stability removes the constant fear of flipping, I disagree--and of course thi...

Re: Probe 12 vs Ovation for beginner
One other thing, if the Ovation is the red wood gunnel'd one in Asheville, I'd buy it. If the pics are any indication, it looks to be in fantastic condition. I'd buy it for my wife if I had the cash available, (she loves Ovations). Good luck

Re: Probe 12 vs Ovation for beginner
I started in a Probe 12 II and went from that to an Ovation. I liked the Ovation way better and think it gets a bad wrap.
I know everybody complained about it being slow back in the day. But if you think about it, it's faster than most of the boats you see on the water these days.

Re: Flotation Question
I have several old Mohawk bags. They all look so old and worn out that you'd swear they wouldn't hold air but they all do. I carry a Coleman rechargeable air pump to put air in bags while on the vehicle cause it's often next to impossible to get your mouth to the tube.

I think you re over estimating the depth of this thread. The pros are obvious- you don't have to dump you boat. The cons are obvious- you look like wuss and there s some maintenance Plus, at least half the posts are meant to be a joke. I used to worry about looking like a wuss but then I moved on t...

Re: critique my surfing.
when sidesurfing with your paddle side on the upstream side, reach over and use a cross sculling motion instead of an on-side low brace into the on-coming current. Have somebody film you from shore. It's very hard to get a feel for the river and your paddling from that camera angle.

Re: 3 Boat Surf - Rescue
:o 2:08 :-? Okay Harry, I'll admit that I am a single blade snob. But I can assure you that the guy in the Outrage with the double bladed paddle (arrrrgh) is the real deal. His name is Bob and he can do it with two blades or ONE, and do it well. As he told me last time I paddled with him "I'm just ...

Re: Ocoee tripping?
I've got to say that at 215#, I love my Ocoee. I'm sure I'd love it even more if I was 170. But if you were doing a multiday trip on rivers without too much slow flat water and you're gear weighed in at 50# or less, it would work out okay. Especially if you had the option of taking several knee and ...
