moving to sugarloaf to work for the season, unfortunately i cant take a boat and could use the money for a security deposit on a place...

Sugarbush? I would recommend connecting with the Vermont Paddlers Club if you can. You will be close to the Mad River, which is a fantastic class III run that runs pretty regularly, and I think people up there would be very open to loaning you a boat.
