I second that. My 3 piece AB paddle fits under the front or rear airbag of the Taureau. Also works well in the Ledge or other boats. I paddle a 56".

If i cant buy locally i call Mark at wrww ... and on that note ... Select has a great 3place piece breakdown .... custom ordered to the lengths you want and they have a great locking system for their parts

if I didn't have the ab edge breakdowns I'd be sweet on the select 3 piece. I use a 56" inch stick and for me I like the flex in the Edges....some might think cheap flexible plastic but I much prefer to give up a small bit of power so I go easy on my joints.

I also prefer the carbon Edge for the flex. I have a Silver Creek I love, but the shaft has no flex and hurts my shoulder

I started paddling with a 56" in an XL13, and that's what I have stuck with. I like having maybe a little more length than strictly necessary, cause it gives me plenty of forward reach. When I ordered my Mitchell, I had slalom racing in mind and asked for a 57", turns out the shaft is the same length as my Werner, so I'm really glad I asked for that instead of a 56". I am not entirely sure, but I would bet that my aquabound is also a 56"-ish paddle.

To step it up a little from the Aqua Bound, Warmer has a two piece in either carbon or fiber glass.

3 piece AB from Walden's at 127 simoleons. Can't beat it. Put mine under the lacing in the Option.

Just remember that you will not retrieve the pieces, assemble, and use in the middle of a crisis.

It will only be after you self-rescue you and your boat having let go of the primary blade!

I have the edge 2 piece, but instead of having it made to break at the blade/shaft junction, I had them make it in to equal pieces. so it fit real well under the flotation of most solo. It is a 56, so it make a 28 inches packable paddle. it is also a bit less wobbly than the 3 piece.

If you are broke or just have several spare paddles a real easy option is to make your own break down paddle. I saw this post and thought that it did not seem that hard, so here are the results. Took some epoxy and a telescoping tube clip thing and a home made insert. All in all about thirty minutes worth of work, a chop saw makes quick work of cutting the paddle in half.

I would not go with anything less than a 3-piece if you are paddling a sub 10-ft canoe. I got a good deal on my Select 3-piece and really like it a lot (had to use it last month when I broke my Zap Paddle), but the price of the 3-piece AB Edge is enticing.

Depends on the sub-10 footer. I have no trouble carrying a 2-piece 60" Werner in my Prelude. I figure the fewer the pieces, the fewer the potential points of failure.

It is a sad fact that the breakdowns aren't good for instant emergency use. I miss the days of paddling longer canoes and being able to pull out the spare paddle without hardly missing a stroke. One day last year I looked pretty silly trying to hand paddle my Prelude, but fortunately no one else was around to see and I did manage to paddle far enough to regain my paddle.

True. It did take me about 5 minutes to deflate my rear airbag, get the paddle out, assemble it, re-inflate my bag, then stick my broken paddle on the back deck. Luckily there was an eddy where I could do all this.
