Boat R&D

Post by Todhunter »

Saw lots of prototype boats at ALF this weekend!

Yellow, purple, and white L'Edge's. A shortened L'Edge. A L'Edgeli (not sure what that was...L'Edge light maybe?). A narrowed and shortened Octane 91, a new Blackfly playboat. Exciting times for plastic open boats!

I didn't get any, but I'm sure someone did. Oh yeah, forgot to mention Nathan Zumwalt's new prototype he was paddling.

I'm guessing not great primary stability, but it IS likely faster than some of the other short boat designs out there

If you decided to put a pump in that thing it would already have a through-the-hull hole drilled (and reinforced). Unfortunately I highly doubt it is fast enough for a "self bailer" like flat water race boats have installed occasionally....

Great to see someone out there having fun and making everyone smile.

B-1? er, sorry: OB-1...

I'm embarrassed to say, I was sitting at work the other day looking at a stack of blue barrels and having the same Idea.

How hard would it be to do a "barrel roll" in that thing? :D

According to Nathan, very hard to roll back up and even harder to stay there. Overall, very impressive that he was able to finish the OUT race in it at all.

Next we're thinking ad building a tandem ;)
