Re: The next generation....
great to see youngsters on the river! But shouldn't they be wearing pfd's and hlemets when messing around in rapids?
It's probably an inspiration for which boats to choose for their 10 year old paddlers.

Watched it and immediately cringed at the lack of helmet and PFDs on these kids.....

Re: The next generation....
Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but my 4 year old knows better than to climb into any of my boats without the right gear on...
Peace Pow and Paddling!

I mean, just one look at Greg Lemond, right ? Really, it's a miracle any of us got out of the 60's & 70's, not to mention survived paddling open boats from the late 80's 'till now....
Y'know what else's is no joke ?

Wow. Hopefully they have a chance to pick up better habits from other people on the river.

Re: The next generation....
On the Truckee... on the 4th of July ??? not likely.... just hundreds and hundreds of revelers floating down the river on innertubes, duckies and rafts (and 3 open canoes... us...) about half in bikini's (the better half ), half sober.... few to none in helmets and whatnot..... maybe not up to your standard... but it is what it is..... fwiw... there used to be more open boaters out here (incl. the SF American and other coastal rivers in season.... ) But few and far between these days..... couldn't find a new boat to buy if you tried..... My older boy just turned 13 last Friday.... if you think you can make him do anything he doesn't want to, in the midst of hundreds of bikini clad ladies.... well let's just say that there'd likely be one less open boater out on the rivers in California.... and we don't want that now, do we.... (and trust me when I say that a four year old will listen to dad better than a 13 year old young man in a river full of bikini's.... ) maybe ain't what I want... but it is what it is..... I'm happy to have them out there.... (more to come...)ian123 wrote:Wow. Hopefully they have a chance to pick up better habits from other people on the river.

I understand your point about young teen-age boys and being in a partying group of river revelers. What I don't get is having float bags inside the canoes but not on the boaters. True, boats don't argue, but they also don't carry the expense of damage or loss that the human body can.
Good video, though. Glad they are at least on the river having fun instead of chasing bikini-clad "better halfs" somewhere more dangerous--like on the road.
