Vince Zappia - Zap Paddles. He posts on here as zappaddles. He custom made me a stick with enough flex in the shaft so my shoulders don't hurt anymore after a day of paddling. I've got about 90 days of paddling on it so far, and other than having to do some minor edge repairs myself, it's held up great.

Saw one of these a couple weeks ago. Very pretty and light, but the shaft was round, not oval. Anyone have experience with them? Pros/cons?

I used them exclusively for the last 3 years of my racing career. Great blades. They were available in two stiffness levels, 2 or 3 star. 2-star had more kevlar and was a little less firm in the shaft, while the 3-star was all carbon. Both had the same blade if I recall, I used the Typhoon which was made similar to the TE05 blade from Gala, the Challenger was designed after the 3M from Gala. I only broke two in 3 years, one was a punt that went very wrong in Bratislava world series race where I managed to get it stuck between two rocks, still finished the race with it, and addled with it for a while longer. The other broke after significant wear to the tip from punting on Charlotte and Sydney courses. They are pricey, but if I buy another boat I'll get another G-power...

I've been using a VE paddle for the past 20 months and love it.

Absolutely Check Out Pothole Paddles!

Post by boatbuster »

Although you may not see canoe paddles on their website http://www.potholepaddles.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

they make incredibly beautiful and durable hand-made wooden canoe paddles. I have been using mine for over a year and just sent it back to Brandy to have it reconditioned. A week later it was back at my house with a new tip, better than ever. These paddles are strong and works of art, and they are a bargain. For the Southerners on this board (I know there are a few) you can find these at the Chattooga Whitewater Outfitters (formerly the Chattooga Whitewater Shop) Mike had several gorgeous Pothole canoe paddles in stock when I was down there to run Section IV recently and I was tempted to buy one. You cannot go wrong giving business to Pothole Paddles!
