Trouble rolling wavesport EZ c1

Post by C1Be1 »

I have recently converted a wavesport EZ to C1 and I’m finding it very difficult to roll. I have no problem rolling my slalom c1 but for some reason I can’t get a solid roll in the EZ. Is there anything that I can do to fix this?

I find the EZ a great C1 and easy to roll.

I do move my body forward and pull the C1 under me more compared to rolling an OC1. I find that once you get to boat past a certain point (it's edge) it just falls over and you are up whereas the OC1 is slower and you must follow through more at the end otherwise you stop the roll.

I find it helps to think that it rolls fast so try focusing on the hip snap--powerful and fast and it's all over before you know it as posed to an OC1 where you are in for the slower and longer roll with a critical finish.

Do you have any pictures of your EZ(specificity the outfitting)? Cause I think the outfitting in my boat might just be the problem.

I have a Big EZ. The problem I had initially was that I'd roll up into a bow-stall. Pretty neat when you want to, but not so neat in the middle of a rapid. lol I found that it rolls better if you have the paddle closer to the stern rather than straight out to the side when you initiate the roll. Here are pics of my outfitting:

How do you have the thigh straps attached on the bottom of the boat?

No thigh straps. It's a lap-belt. It's attached to the front bolts for the hip pads. Those holes were for the kayak seat.

I also only used a lap belt in my EZ C1.

I’ve never found thigh straps keeping my butt down (or up) when rolling C1s.

But thigh straps do work well in OC1.

I think that might be the problem! I always feel like my butt lifts of the seat during my roll. Looks like I have some outfitting todo in the near future :)

A tall back rest really helped me. I like 6" above the seat. Just be sure to round off any corners that are above the rim to prolong the life of your skirt.
