Vinyl-Tec and Outfitting

Post by Colin »

Does anyone know whether Vinyl-Tec bonds to the plastic kayaks? Is there an alternative that will bond to the plastic well and also to the Vinyl "D" Ring anchors? I know contact cement will do jack on the achors.

Has anyone else made an anchor on the bottom of a kayak or somewhere where you probably shouldn't screw a bolt hole :)

thanks!

answering my own question :)

Well the vinyl d ring anchors don't glue directly to the bottom of a kayak... Vinyl-Tec wont stick to the boat... so i used Vinyl-Tec to glue the anchor to a 1/4" piece of foam and then cemented that to the boat... it's nice and solid, but is up off the hull a bit... the Vinyl-Tec seems to hold well to the foam... we'll see if it will handle some torque...

hope to have my pics up next week of my snowboard strap system...

If you want thigh-straps use the Team ETC. system. http://cboats.net/teametc.shtml I used it on my Big EZ & really liked it. Later I decided that I would try a lap belt & bulkhead. With that set up you just bolt the lap belt to the seat holes & carve a bulkhead. It took be a while to get used to having to release the belt to swim, but I got over it. I found that the boat behaves differently with my butt firmly planted than it did with just thigh-straps. Photos are here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/wh20crazy ... 02&.src=ph Look at BEZ1, 2 & 3.

The cool thing about the Team ETC system is that the boat is not modified at all. You don't even glue anything to the hull. It's all bolted in using the original yak outfitting holes.
