Hey,
Mohawk desings should be available in early '06 under the We No Nah name. Wenonah bought Mohawk on 12th of this month. The molds are being moved soon and will be built in the We No Nah factory in Winona, MN. I do believe that the mailorder side of the buisness will end, but all the boats should be available through your Wenonah dealer.

I think that the only negative thing that will come from this is the lack of Mail Order. I think that boats will get a better build than from Mowhawk, Wenonah buys a nicer royalex than what was available on the Mowhawk built boats. Furthermore there is talk of building composite versions of some of the boats, something that has been lacking in the states. I think we will all be pleasantly suprised at how nice these new classics will be.

i have a minnesota two from we-no-nah, and its a fast boat, but the royalex they used to use is def. a light layup. the fact that they will likely produce alot of the boats in a glass or a kevlar version should be cool. i think that they will probably have change the designs just a bit. anywho, the intent of this message was to say that they are a pretty bomber composite boat maker. and with a ton of jensen flatwater designs, they're uber fast.

From what I understand there is one supplier of Royalex and the quality has gone downhill on all of it. We spoke to a former manager of production at Mad River while on the Nantahala earlier this year and he said that they were essentially performing the manufacturer's QC - they were constantly getting bad batches. We've heard a couple of things about soft boats from Bell here, too.

I know some folks didn't approve of their direct sales approach - but look how well the dealer model worked for Dagger (canoes at least). And notice that Mad River is now available in at least one big box sporting goods store - Dick's.

Mohawk always provided a pretty good boat and decent accessories at a very good price. Maybe not a lot of innovation lately. All the same, I'll miss them.

just a tangent, but speaking of solid royalex, the two manufacturers that come to mind are nova craft, and Old town. but neitherof which make a real playboat. well Nova Craft makes a 14 foot something, but thats about it. i think glass is just the way to go now. i learned how to repair it, and its a much more performance oriented hull, alot more movely than the plastic siblings.

Hey, I never said it was fact- I just saw the comment on this forum under another topic and thought I'd see what people knew. It doesn't matter all that much to me, since I can't afford a new boat anyway- even if I cut out the middleman.

Now, who do you suppose will be the next manufacturer to offer a hull in Twintex?

I havent the faintest. but
im going to put my money on either bell, or mad river. it would be cool to see a finkenmeister in the amerlite material so see if ther is a difference with more stiffness or what.

I have several friends that were about to buy Vipers by the end of the year-boy are they going to be disappointed!!

I got an email back from Craig at Mohawk. He said that production has ceased. They are looking for a buyer, and that they are far from out of business.

It a good all around boat. Can't beat it for speed, good performace in a forgiving package. The new larger`deck plates look to give the boat a dryer ride as the ends are much fuller now and the overall boat a bit wider.

BUT if you want one better move fast - Mohawk has stopped making canoes. Last I heard only 3 Shamans were left in stock, once they are gone thats it.

If Bell started offering the Ocoee in Twintex, I'm pretty sure I'd get one. That would be hard to beat for an all-around open boat.

I'm surprised that Esquif's 1st? offering in Twintex is such a self-proclaimed begginer/intermediate boat. It seems to me that the biggest market for Twintex hulls would be more experienced, aggressive paddlers who wear out their Royalex hulls in a season or two.

Maybe harder chines are difficult to do in Twintex?
