mad river outrage x or mohawk shaman for first canone
I am about to buy my first whitewater canoe and still trying to decide which to buy. I am 6' 220lbs

Make sure you do a search here on each - there are lots of discussions that mention the Outrage family, maybe not so many that mention the Shaman. Probably not too many that mention both.

I have used the regular outrage quite a bit, and think it is a great boat, stable and quick, only I prefer a slightly more responsive boat. (the esquif spark). The Shaman is also good, excellent forward speed and glide, it doesn't have as much rocker as the Outrage, so doesn't turn as quickly. It also has a slightly flatter bottom and harder chines, so it carves much better. It is much more stable. I would go for the Shaman over the Outrage X, assuming that is you can find on eused, as is no longer in production.
