North Branch of the Potomac Armada

Post by Mike W. »

The NBP release dates have been set. When do you want to have the Armada?

I can make either of the first two, but will not be able to make either of the May weekends.

There has been discussion of pre-Armada squirt-boating again this year. That was awesome last year.

I voted for the first date because while we have something down for each of the 4 dates, that weekend has the one event I could most likely get out of. However, since I am planning on making the March -It-Ain't-Louie-Festivus, my chances of making a NBP armada this year are dwindling.

Even though I voted for the first weekend, I could also make the second one as well. Holiday weekends are definitely out. It was nice to have a warm weather armada last year. But, you gotta go when you gotta go.

Squirtin' on Friday is a good option.

NBofP

I'm good any of those dates but April would be better. Mom's day would be iffy but do-able (I'll have both kids if that is the date and give the wifey a hall pass) and Memorial Day is usually a backpacking weekend for us.

This is usually an easier warm up trip with the NBofP being Class II (with a III that has an easy sneak on it).

As for Friday the earlier we do it the less likely the water will cooperate (okay that is a paddling oxymoron but it is the case for the squirt boaters, in particular Cquirtist). SO if folks are up for it we can hit the Narrows again. Maybe a new boat will be available then - no pressure Adam.

As for that date - what side trips would folks be up for this time? In the past we have done the LY (loop), Backlund Paddles and PS Composites. Post what interest there is and for what "field trips" are desired!

PS: What no Scott to paddle with or his ferrying of southern Ginger ale north? What will we do! Let us know if a special plea is needed to the Mrs.!

SBroam HAS to come up. He has a pretty pink boat to pick up after all

I also liked the warm weather Armada, but agree the April weekends make the most sense (particularly the second one...if there is a chance for me to get a certain project near completed...).

At Last Year's Armada... There was a release on the Savage that Friday. So, more than likely, you may see that happen again as well. That makes for a real nice three day weekend. The Armada was in May last year, correct?

Both April dates work for me, but the ones in May are already booked.

I am also interested in the pre-armada C1-squirt thingie.

I know I typed up a response to this a while back but I don't see it now! Danged gremlins.

Not so much a Mrs problem - more of a constraint of our current understanding of the laws of time and space. Can't be in but one place at a time. The last three dates are ruled out for very good, canoeing related reasons - one I'll be helping with a fundraiser for "Canoeing-For-Kids" (see the calendar for May 12) Memorial Day weekend I am helping lead a canoe trip down the Edisto with the YMCA Trailblazers. April 28-29 is the weekend of a big campout at the YMCA where I am the "canoe guy" (I bring them and help supervise). The remaining weekend has more mundane things going on, but I would be inconveniencing my lovely bride and her oh-so-supportive parents...

I *can* make the Festivus in TN, though.

April 28th and 29th works for me as this is the weekend that Coastal's has their 1/4ly meeting and we decided to do it on the NBP. I need to be at the meeting so I will be up there regardless. I know that there will be groups headed up to the Upper Yough Sunday as well.

I'd love to join this event one of these years, but none of these dates work for me.

Have a great time!

The 28th works best for me. I checked with Gunst and it looks like that weekend works for him. Any way to check when the Volunteer Fire Parade is up there?- that was a hoot last year, and if it is going on when we are there I recommend getting Fox's Pizza to set a few tables out in the parking lot for us! I vote for Big Al as Grand Marshall!
