zephyr outfitting

Post by fchasw »

We've got a new zephyr (just doing our part for the canoe market - yeah, esquif!).

The shop recommended 48" bags, but they leave a few inches of empty space in the factory outfitting. Way too small for my taste. I've seen a few people mention zephyrs here - what size (length) flotation bags are you using?

Also, what have you used to glue minicell in the boat (like for the knee pads, which come separate - I feel like I've seen references to problems with adhesives on the twintex.

Thanks,

Charlie

I've got 60" bags, front and rear - fills it out nicely.

No problems with contact cement, pads and the like are not in tension and it works fine. The problem comes in getting a good bond in tension - you need a high $ 3M two part adhesive or build a bulkhead. But yours is probably factory outfitted with the new glue or a bulkhead already.

I think the 60" bags would work well also. The 48" bags from my Quake still left more room for water than I wanted. Knee pads - I bought 1/2" thick self adhesive knee pads from Rock Creek Outfitters at the Ocoee. These worked very well and installed in 5 minutes - no messy contact cement!!

This is a great help.

I do have the factory-installed straps, so I'll look into contact cement for the knee pads.

What kind of glue does one use for the knee pads and where can one get it. Is it the spray 3M or is it similar to contact cement.
