A note on language...

Post by adamin »

Please keep things "G" rated on this forum...we have a number of young adults who read this (and kids, for that matter), and the language has started to step over the line a bit.

You'll notice if you re-read some recent posts I've enacted a few new word censors. I don't like doing it, as I don't like censorship at all, but we do try to have some fun with it at least.

Thank you,
Adam

Flower Butted?

Post by Lou »

Flowers are happy?

If not for the wild crossing going in the flower world, the evolution of birds and mammals would have never happened.

But look where that got us.

Censorship just reveals more cultural baggage.

There are definitely different styles of forum administration out there. We like to keep things so folks would be happy with their kids reading it, and on-topic. If you like a more "wild west" style (which I, too enjoy, but not when I'm looking for information...) check out Boater Talk. Great entertainment, if nothing else

Thank you all for understanding,
Adam

Believe it or not we don't sit up nights worrying about languague - when something appears that we get complaints about, or we're uncomfortable with, we add it to the languague filter (trying to make it amusing). So, yes, there is much trouble you could cause. 99+% of posters here stay profanity free, and we greatly appreciate that. And, a lot of us also appreciate the non-profane humor you, Marshall, and others provide...we don't want this community to be too boring after all 8)

If anyone would like to discuss any of this further, please PM or e-mail me (links below).

Adam, do you receive complaints from the CYA boize for profane words like "adhesive" and "bob f(&*%" and "3M contact cement" ? What are the filters for those? ;-)

I've got to say, if there are kids out there under the age of 18 who are reading this forum (besides Nate), I'm impressed! I can just imagine the scene . . .

Father, calling into the other room: "Hey, you're just checking the Cforum . . . right?"

Son (frantically closing a porn site): "Yeah, yeah, Dad, I was reading about how to repair my Zephyr . . . "

Father: "I like the way that Adam Pearsall promotes family values."

Son (reopening porn site): "Dad, we're talking about a man who named his new squirt boat 'The Mentor.'"

Father: "A squirt boater, huh? I forgot about that. I've heard they do drugs and listen to earthy music . . . Hmmm . . . Hey, son, why don't you come in here and read a book for a change . . . "

Alden...have you been PMing my son again about the "pleasures of creek boating"? Darn I have to set up more filters now to keep him from being corrupted by those twisted hairboaters!

Actually my 12 year old does visit the site and after this last week's adventure in the world of OC2 down river racing has interest in "me" buying a race boat. Something in the 17' range! So he was reading the "why canoes are not profitable" thread last night. This is proving that a little bit of information is a dangerous thing!

A really scary thing is he and his "buds" now have a posting board of their own, set up by the local club, where they post stories and set up paddling trips (parents love to hear they are already committed to running "such&such" section over the weekend. :o Actually its pretty cool to watch them hype and get a paddling jazz going. They even have their own avatars. 8)

Now all I have to do is catch up to where he is technology wise to keep things "semi under control". :-? Its a brave new and crazy world - but I would change a thing!
