Roto-Molded Canoe Straps?

I saw them on Northwater.com and i looked at all their retailers, but no one sells them. Anyone know where i might be able to get them? Or perhaps something similar. I'm looking for straps that don't have that vinyl pad attached to it for open canoes. heres a picture below [img]http://www.northwater.com/assets/images ... straps.jpg[/img]

They're nice- I have a set in my I3- Theyre quick to get in and out of- Bernie uses another nice set up- I think they said fat eddie's on them- they're not rigid but I'll probably try to get some of those if I have to convert a boat- and don't have enough leftovers of my own. Most shops who carry north water would have to special order them for you- and you'll have to wait a little while-

oh some of the ones north water sent me had the vinyl on them- AND the top piece did not come with a few pair- I guess Northwater had them confused with the royalex canoe version which sells the dring separately-

I think North water as of 2005 was going to discontinue them - I bought a few of them and had them make me 80 of those webbed drings. {{{They certainly aren't HOT sellers but maybe it would be nice if Bernie or ERA would carry some of their stuff- if you're reading this the padded thigh straps lock up- or can lock up in a c1 when the buckle hits the dring- }}} I wanted the order to be large enough it was worth there time to do it. I hope they get enough support to continue to make canoeing a viable solution for them-

You think it would be possible to order the normal 2" padded velcro North Water straps without the vinyl padding?

Because then all i would need is a little webbing and four D-rings and just bolt em down.

p.s. what do you all think of the Rodeo Thigh Straps?

i was thinking of getting them just two vinyl pads, glue one on the outside of both knees. Then hooking up the thigh section of the straps normally(drilling holes, bolting with webbing, using 2"cam buckles)

sound a little weird?

This system would require 6 drings - I've never used this system from North Water but I have used this style set up and liked it- what are you using for the center suppor of the conversion? PAC cut slots into a plastic base for his bottom support this worked really nicely and Bernie uses webbing with drings at both ends which can slide under the support post- this is also a nice option-

For the center support i was thinking about cutting slots in the middle area of a Gyramax Saddle, feeding some webbing through with a D-ring. N

Not quite sure how it would hold up though.

There should be slots in a Gyramax saddle, but they were not far enough back for my purposes in a conversion so I added "footmans loops" (random google result : http://bosunsupplies.com/products2.cfm?product=TieDown ) where I wanted them.

...i don't know of any glue that would stick well enough for thigh/ knee straps.

I guess maybe the same adhesive that would be used to glue them down to the inside of canoes?

Vinabond is usually used for that but it ain't gonna stick to plastic.

Pretty much nothing is going to stick to plastic well enough to anchor some straps, you can glue a seat, ankle blocks, knee blocks and sometimes a bulkhead but all those things will have pressure pushing them against the boat hull and not pulling on them so you can get away with glue on them.

hmmm. bummer then, i think i might just go a little more traditional:
Get some two-inch wide Northwater straps, and make myself a bulkhead

Installing the Rodeo Thigh Straps sounds like it would be a little difficult and not really worth it.
