open boaters in Ct.

Post by mattm »

Hi. I live in Ct. by the Farmington river, collinsville area, and am wondering if there's any canoeists in the area, besides Willard. I paddle with a bunch of local yakkers, love 'em all, but really enjoy seeing another canoe on the river, besides my son( at the age of 13 he almost went to the darkside, but my Dagger Encore straightened him out quick, and he plays in a whitesell pirana now  ) I'm sure Willard would enjoy another canoes company as well, and it seems like all my oc-1 buddies are from New Jersey and Rhode Island. Anyone interested in poling also ? It makes low water a lot of fun.
so glad for Krylon, ABS and acetone.Squirt, sail, paddle and pole.

Well, I'm mostly a racer, but I frequently paddle that section when it's up (which is not that often, unfortunately). In the winter and early spring, I'm mostly in my C1, but I use my Spark when the weather gets less icy.

I've got a couple of gates hung in the flatwater behind Collinsville Canoe if you want to do work-outs.

I think I met you this past spring at the Bee Brook put in on the Shepaug while I was waiting for the rest of my group to show up. You were poling a dumoine I think...

I'm in Watertown, but Collinsville isn't that far away. I'm an open boater, paddling mostly II and some III. Most of my paddling friends are in the Boston area, so I've been looking for some paddlers in this area to run some local rivers with. I've never run that section below Collinsville, but it does look interesting. Drop me a line when you're heading out and we'll try to hook up.

How about Saturday/Sunday?

Post by mattm »

This Saturday/Sunday New Boston?Convenient ride up rt. 8 to New Boston. Hopefully my son Aaron (was poling a red Dagger Reflection on the Shepaug) will be healthy enough to join "the gang." Got an OC-1 buddy Erik from RI (was poling a Mohawk that day ), and about 6-10 kayaks in our group for saturday, smaller group so far for Sunday; then Willard, Aaron and I are meeting on the 20th for the same stretch. We're meeting at the bridge upstream from the covered bridge about 9:30 saturday, do some scouting, then figuring out what we're running. I've got a blue Dakota, racks and Krylon Green canoes on top. Also a cl. 2/some 3 paddler. 860 205-0827
I actually live in Terryville, and I'm sure we'll get together for some Shepaug runs when that jewel comes up. That's when my NJ/NY canoeing buddies usually come up. Bantam is great too when the levels up.

Bob, thanks for the offer with the gates. We know them well, usually put in there when we go poling up to Satans. Matt
