Thanks Dooley - a very good read. One of the things I enjoy about this board, along with updates, thoughts and reviews... is the history updates!
A lot of this data, like the information on runs and past boat designs, is very important to existing and future paddlers across our little blue marble.
IMHO however there still are a couple outstanding items... like the lack of video of that OC2 run (great photos). I know a few folks would love to see that!! Seeing the race photos of the OC & C runs was way cool and impressive know the skill that takes.
Also can Will can talk "Not Elvis" or the "Great Gonzo" into taking an Noah America C2 down it? (Note: you did not see my name there along with my Hydra for running it! )

Will or anyone else who is up to it for that matter can certainly take my Noah America C2 down the nattows of the Green , as far as the copilot of the craft for this endeavour is concerned, don't count on me !
The Green seems to be still quite a bit above my skill level in a solo boat, let alone in a tandem !
I'll gladly take pictures from the sidelines though !

Ok, here's a thought- If you're racing in OC-1, the move seems to be to jump out just above Gorilla between Pencil sharpener and the Notch to dump. With times around nine minutes, it seems to me that you wouldn't lose too much time dragging around the notch if you weren't comfortable running it and still wanted to race.
Then again, it seems like that move might be a good way to get you a pair of those pink panties.

Question for you Eli : How come the times in the race have got such a great difference ? I mean, yakers are faster then us but not by such a margin. And you being the reference, I assume that's pretty much as fast as an OC can make it ???
Every time you have to stop and dump you add about :30 to your time. Multiply that out by dumping 5-7 times during the Class V race and you have the time gap between open boat and kayak.
Yes Article 3 Section 5 of the Green Race Codes and Bylaws states "Electric bildge pumps are illegal for the sole purpose of keeping spectators on the riverbanks at the notch dry"
Maybe if someone had a bilge pump which shot down or out the front or something they could get that ammended...
Sounds like OC discrimination to me - just another way to make sure the kayakers don't look bad! I'm guess'n the OC folks running it are looking really strong!

hades yea they're lookin' strong. Zach had an awesome boof off gorilla for it being his second time running it in an OC! Furthermore, he was going to hike up and do it again in a prijon tornado k1 but his boat fell through.
Will, again -- you went really fast. How did you feel about your run? I assume you ran Go Left? How did everything go? What is considered about the halfway point? About how long does it take from Gorilla to the end? A minute? Would that put Gorilla about 4 minutes into the race? Is Zwick's even a worry in a long boat? Are there any spots you wouldn't imagine would be hard in the race, but are? Also, seems like lots of guys get f---ed up on the left boof at Pencil Sharpener (been there) -- how come more guys don't run the center boof there?

I had good lines everywhere, the only place that really slowed me down was getting flipped at speedtrap. I kept it upright and downstream through go left and ran the 'dry' race line at zwicks instead of the boof. I also went left at pencil sharpener, just because it's a kick butt boof and I like the whole splat boof move. I don't really know what is considered half way, probably around zwicks somewhere. It's pretty quick from gorilla to the finish, but that's the hardest part of the race because there's so much constricted current it's easy to get spun out or pushed somewhere you don't want to be. I didn't train or anythign for the race, I got one run in Friday right before the race and other than that hadn't been on the green in a while and hadn't run gorilla since the last time it rained, whenever that was. Dave was the same way, although he probably paddles a lot in Charlotte and is inway better shape than me. I'm sure if you came down and brought your slalom training with you you'd kick my butt, I'm worried when Jay comes back down, he was like 15 mintues faster than me in the russell fork race this year!
