Wow. That would be awesome. I don't live in Ireland, but spend a month in Ballycastle (about 40 min. north of Ballina and 1.5 hrs. west of Slago), Co. Mayo most summers. During my past two trips I was wondering if I could find any *real* boaters to paddle with. Next time I'm over there I'll have to remember to contact you guys.

I´ll be in Naas in June for my cousin´s wedding and have been thinking about bringing my boat. My idea was to bring my creekboat, then get to Norway somehow. Can you get a ferry from Ireland to Norway? Someone once told me I could. Also, any ideas on what airlines to fly with a boat? Aer Lingus?

Although I have not flown with a boat to Ireland, I can comment on which airline would be ideal. The Aer Lingus staff has always been MUCH more helpful than any other airline I have been on. We would still be using them, but the service is no longer out of the local airport (s). Although it would be wise to check with them in advance, I'd bet they would be more willing to let a boat on board than say, US Air or United, whom are not as helpful (in my experience).

if you are going to Norway, you might want to think about taking out a second morgage on you house. i worked there a few years back and it was expensive then. i wouldnt even want to think about how much it would cost now.

i dont think you will be able to catch a ferry from ireland to norway. you can catch a ferry from britian, but that probably wont help to much. the flights around europe are cheap, but not if you are hauling a boat. they charge outragious rates to take large heavy cargo (ie. a boat). i think your best bet would be to take some outfitting with you, and then get a boat there. i could prolly hook you up with a boat in norway. i have some good friends there that could set you up. let me know.

You can take a ferry to Norway-- from Great Britain, though. I think it leaves somewhere in Northern England and lands in Bergen. Once you're in Norway you can take the Hurtigruten steamer up and down the coast. I was in Norway in spring 06. Yes, expensive, but the best place to live in the world, period.

One of these days I really need to make it over to Ireland...and an Armada would be even better

. I visited Scotland about 7 years ago, and saw a few rivers I wished I'd had my boat for....

I haven't traveled overseas much (the countries in the post are about it), but I must agree that Norway is a beautiful place. Not easy to live year-round though, but wonderful people and surroundings. And yes, I wished I'd had a boat with me then, too. Thankfully we followed that up by hopping over to Switzerland to see NZMatt and Jo for a week...and got to swim and boat:) Though I'm not sure what I have the fondest memories of...the boating, or hiking.

Anyway, good luck with an Irish Armada! When you have dates and places and such please post them up and I'll try and remember to make them a "sticky" so they stay on top. If you know the folks at Rough Stuff, you can let them know they make great sticks...mine is holding up GREAT!

hm, I'm afraid I didn't completely understand: did they do an armada or are they planning one for next year? Please answer, if you have any information!

Last year I have made a two weeks canoe trip (touring) from O'Briens Bridge (Limerick) to the WWCK near Dublin. Just made the experience that the Irish are really cool and friendly people and somehow I fell in love with Ireland :) So I'd really consider to come along when they would do an armada......
