Ottawa River - Bussy - Open Boat - Beatdown

Post by cmnypny »

Man word gets around ... that would be true.

Hopefully someone else will be shooting video and pics.

I will let you know how it goes!

I already have this as a FaceBook Event but I thought I would let the general public know:

Saturday, July 12, 2008
Time: 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Location: Bussy on the beautiful Ottawa River
City/Town: Beachburg, ON

So after many long deep thoughts and rallying up enough courage or stupidity. I have decided to see if I can run thru Bussy in my 14 foot open boat. The water is huge and the temperature is warmer than May.

I will be up paddling with some of my open boat buddies and I am sure with enough encouragement they might be convinced to run it or drop into it depending on how I make out.

I would love for people to come out and take pics and video.

Joey Hitchins figues I might have a good chance if I can hit the tongue dead on otherwise it will mostly be carnage followed by a yard sale.

It would be really nice to have some folks in the river for safety for my impending swim.

The time for the event can be changed a bit either way.

I will do this if enough people attend this event otherwise I might chicken out.

Addendum:

Neil has already bailed on me.
Not sure about Derek yet.

So it might just be me but I know Phitty and most likely Bobbie will be there hopefully to save my butt if I need it

The verdict is in

Post by cmnypny »

Ok ... so here is the status report of my run thru Mini-Bus.

On my 1st run down I ended up hitting the left shoulder and made it.

BUt when I paddled back up everyone said I missed the big stuff by about 15 feet.

Matt Hamilton had his little jet boat out and said he we get me if I ran it again.

I carried back up.

On my 2nd and last run I ened up going right thru the meat of it and it stopped me dead and I have a lovely long swim with my boat.

Matt came up ang got me after I swam my boat to shore and gave me a ride back up.

Sorry no pics as my memory card apparently filled up when Derek was taking the pics.

It was an amazing trip.

OH and I also fully styled it run ST Chute today at Garvins.

I have a small video clip in DVD format of me running ST Chute.

Anyone know how I can convert it to a AVI file for upload to youtube?

Pic from my 1st run

Post by cmnypny »

Due to my so called friend taking random pics of everything from rafts to heavens forbid kayakers on Bussy ... he neglected to tell me my memory card was full for my second run.

So here is the pic of me when I was commited on my 1st run prior and ended up hitting the left shoulder.

I really wanted to be more to the right in order to hit the meat of it. That is how the 2nd run went. My chest was sore for a few days after hitting the wall of water.

Hey just so you know I made that shirt with my own hands and a sewing machine.

The buttons cost more than the material did.

It also has a matching button on tie for formal party occasions :o

I also debated on whether to take it off or not as it might have made my long swim more difficult in big water.

I decided to leave it on to make it easier for the rescue boat to find my body bouncing or floating between the big waves.

his is what it looked like from behind me as I went over the top of the left shoulder.

i really needed to be further right!

as you can tell by looking ahead of me that an out of boat experience would be interesting to say the least.

Great Photos, Not quite the quality of a cmnypny shot, but I think you were preoccupied. I especially like the one where you were diggin' in big time just before....... the big hit
