I'm considering purchasing a used MR Rampage for my first OC-1. Can't find much about this boat on the net. Anybody have an experience with these?

I paddled one for a couple of years. They are great "big water" boats. Very dry and stable. They will span some pretty big holes. They also accelerate well. Good surfer and probably the easiest boat to roll I have ever owned. Great beginner boat. Very forgiving.

The down side is they are just too big. Not meant for small technical streams. Wrapped mine around a tree on one of these (see photo). Don't expect any quick eddy turns.

In the limited time I spent in one it reminded me most of a refrigerator box.
But if it's cheep and will get you on the water go for it.

I can't find a good picture of one, but if this is the one I recall, I was impressed at how wide it was and how it had the same width for a remarkable portion of it's length, almost rectangular in plan (like a refrigerator box!). Never paddled one, though.

That looks deceptively like a swift water rescue clinic. So good of the owner to donate his boat so others may live and learn.

Jim, I wish it had been an SWR course. I had one hades (can't use the objectional word) of a walk out of that gorge that day. With the help of my buds, we went back for the boat and pulled it out. It was well past "dark thirty" by the time we got back to my truck.

I actually paddled this canoe off & on for a couple more years after I put new gunnels on it. I finally got smart and bought my first edge-boat: a Mohawk Viper 12. It would be hard to go back to the old Rampage now, although I did obtain an Outrage last year. It seems to paddle similarly to the Rampage, but turns alot quicker. I've been using it on big western type water and my Ocoee on the small technical stuff.

I too had to switch to an edged boat almost 12 years ago. Went from an Encore to an Occoee as the Encore wouldn't track well in heavy class 5. Wound up with a rock splat and a brief two pointer on Upper Shavers Fork of the Cheat.

I paddled one of those MR barges once, as people said it felt very wide and boxy. I reffered to it as an aircraft carrier.
