We've talked about this for years (that it appears more whitewater folks in general Tele rather than Alpine), I thought it would be fun to run a poll....

Neat poll. I will say that I think it's easier to jump into teleskiing from alpine than it is to jump from K-1 to C-1.

I also think that teleskiing is much more physically exhausting than alpine skiing, while there isn't much of a difference between canoe and kayak.

What do people think?

My theory is that like canoeing vs. kayaking, it's more about technique and the experience.

And, like whitewater (and flatwater) what really matters is that you're out there, not what type of craft your in, or planks you ride.

Do you really have to ask. Tele all the way. Although, as with kayaking, its okay to alpine upon occasion (just put your heels down).
Cboater lost the training paddle!
Teleskiers lost the training heel!
Let the snow fly (yes Mr. Watson in a short time stuff we paddled a month ago we'll be skiing across).

PS: Snowboarding is okay too. It just sucks around here do to the lower elevations (in and out of bindings)!

No offense meant, but, I always considered snowboarding to be the kayaking equivalent in the frozen water sports.
You know, shorter learning curve, less technique required, inconsiderate masses of arrogant jerks pushing all the powder down the hill.

However, like kayakers, some of my best friends are boarders.

Most of the C-boaters I know here in Colorado are free heeling backcountry skiers like myself. Earn your turns and enjoy the serenity of the mountains.

Haven't tasted the Kool-aid yet, but I expect to convert to tele as soon as I get the chance to try it. As with open boats and rigid singlespeed mountain bikes, I seem to inevitably choose the path of greatest resistance.

It should be no surprise how many boating friends I've run into at the Mad River Telefest. Mostly kayakers though.
