shoulder injury

Post by rcgalwa »

I have left shoulder impingement. If unfamiliar with this condition Alden's guide book Let it rain gives a good overview. Mine came to fruition on a whitecapped lake crossing in my Taureau after a run down the east outlet of the Kennebec. I over exerted that shoulder paddling more than I ever had during that season. I keep things in check with physical therapy excercises every other day. Its kind of a pain, but it keeps me on the water without any problems.

the RF flipped over to my on side.....tried to brace my way out of it as it was fairly shallow.
I should have let go but tried to keep the brace. Since the boat kept its momentum, my bracing arm swept back toward the back of the boat....I could feel it would give if I held any longer, so let go.
Dang...it took nearly 6 months to heal completely.....washing hair and face was a real pain.
I will probably swim from now on!
