I'm looking for a place to buy a saddle for a conversion.kinda thinkin about that box-seat thing. any opinions?

Cheapest saddle I could find was the Mad River TKO pedestal. I ordered 2 from my local dealer at $55 a piece I think.

I secured them to my OC2 with anchor straps like these:

They work great and I love the height and width. I only shaved them down a little. For a closed deck C, you'll probably want to take the height down a little, but thats all personal preference. I prefer about a 6" height in my C1 playboat.

There are other saddle options out there. Many of them are quite a bit more money, especially if you have to pay your own shipping vs. having a dealer order it for you.

Buy a bun of minicell from Sweets Composites for $79 (not sure of shipping) and you can make several pedestals...

what type of boat are you converting?
i have saddles available unshaped.
are you using a rail system or gluing directly the hull?
what about straps?
i have different setups availble also.
let me know if there is thing i can do for you or just advice on setting the boat up

A WS godzilla is the target of my conversion. I've been thinking of using the footbrace and seat bolts to secure a seat assembly like the one i see on playak.com, mostly because i'm not too sure about glueing to polyethylene. Does it stick good?

What about hull reinforcement? will it taco on me?

some more pic and ideas would be helpful.

I've done the Team ETC conversion & just glued the foam to the hull. Either way is fine. I use Weldwood contact cement (red can). Just sand the area first. the godzilla is a really good boat for a conversion, a solid river runner.
i use a seat rail for my conversion kits, the saddles come eithor grooved for the rails or not.
it also ties in with the knee block and comprssion block .
if your gluing to the hull directly i would recommend using Weldwood contact cement(red can) and using 2 coats and letting the 1st coat dry compleately.
if intrested in getting a saddle , let me know and i have 1 (6" saddle) left not in a kit and will sell it to you cheap.

Nope, not for D-rings. There is an expensive 3M 2 part adhesive that is rumored to work. Most folks do something structural - the ETC plate, fence rails, downspout, bulkheads, etc.

hapypadler - look at the Team ETC outfitting that Scott referred to. It can be found in the photos on Scott's Picasa page (see the bottom of his message).

The other possibility is an all minicel system. Craig Smerda posted some photos a month or so ago of a conversion that he did. Looked really nice. I will also echo Scott's thoughts that if you want minicel in bulk that Sweet Composite is a good place to go. I have nothing but good things to say about my dealings with Jennifer Hearn at Sweets.

Scott - What kind of plastic is J. Robbins using in his ETC outfitting?

Jay uses polyethylene. I got a sheet from a local plastics supplier.

i sell the adhesive and use it in outfitting boats.
the product is from 3M and is a really good 2 part adhesive for gluing patches to plastic hulls.
it's kinda expensive but works well.
it requires a special gun and nozzle.
if your intrested in getting some, i could sell the glue to you and send out the gun on loan to use for free.

I've decided to go cheap and use a fibergass pole going thru the saddle and pillars, and gluing to the hull. this seems to be an easy setup for a first c1. Thanks for all the ideas.
