It looks like it is going to be a fairly good year for lady open boater at ALF, Lady open boater from Mexico and Gray Skeeter are both already promisin to be there and they are always Lady boaters from Canada comin.

The campground is like 6 miles from the dinner bell resturant, and while I don't get into all that preplannin stuff, a lot of people know where that resturant is and there is a bunch of hotels close.

Are most people staying at the Soaring Eagle campground? I'm coming down friday night, haven't decided where to stay, probably camping. Is there a place to buy beer close to there?

and it sells beer I even seen some foo-foo beer there. They seemed pretty accodatein I bet if you called and let them knowed you was comin they might stock up on your particular brand. I figure if we is goin to the pleatue we'd meet there, it is five miles closer than the dinner bell if we were goin to the smokies we'd just meet at the dinner bell resturant. I would really hope the rain was such we could get on Waldens ridge a lot, but this is a free form party so, each is exspected to do what ever floats their boat. Dooley and Shriver will be the hair leaders, Dick and Doopey head up advanced. Kelly always downgrades himself and take the intramediates. Beginers can tag along wiwth almost any group and just put on a little futher down the mountain

I think this might be my first post since last year.

Not sure how I will make out the first couple of days at will be the first time in my Battleship since mid-november. I would like to do easy stuff the the first couple of days (Craig?!?!)

I can't belive it is four weeks from today ... believe it or not I have just started the pre-plan logistical stuff (what to bring).

As usual I will be the camera bitch ... remember that I need to stop and get out ahead of you if you want your photo taken. I hope to still be around for Baby Fall's day!

I am not sure how long i will stay in TN for paddling.

I would like to head south for a couple of days to do a photo roadtrip of New Orleans or anywhere else along the the Gulf.

I am hoping to break up the 15 hour drive back to my buddies place in WV (3 day drive back to Canada) and will be looking for a place to crash somewhere in TN on the way back.

I know this might sound morbid but are there any old cemetaries that might be on my roadtrip path from TN down to Alamba, Mississippi that I could take pics at.

I need to be back in Canada by march 24th!

Anyone know what the Soaring Eagle campground is like?

Colin - We stayed at Soaring Eagle last year based on Louie's recomendation. We were the only Alf folks there. It is close to the highway, about eight minutes (?) to the dinner bell. The campground folks were freindly, bathrooms clean, shower water pressure good and warm. We were in a trailer and not a tent.

Paddling In Western North Carolina.

It was published by the History Press of Charleston and is illustrated
with over 60 black and white photos from the 30's through 1980.

I have a powerpoint presentation of all the photos and more that I have

grandson of Frank Bell, have been boating for 45 years and have a few

If you are asking about this guy and his book, I read it recently and enjoyed it. He wrote an entertaining, brief history of paddling in the SE from his perspective, that being the camps in WNC and their paddling programs. Lot's of familiar names and places in there - some now gone; some of the people are passed on, some of the runs under reservoirs...
