Back-band vs Foam seat back

Post by mshelton »

I've noticed that some of the outfitting posts have formed seat backs and some have 'yak' style back bands. What's the advantage of one over the other? I'm outfitting a H:3, I'm going to try the fence-rail conversion (allthough it has a Dagger pedistal in it now, I'd just like to have fun trying to outfit it myself :D ). Also is there any "recomended" height for a foam seat back or is it a matter of preference and comfort?

Hi,
I am prone to have foam seat backs and converted all my boats
accordingly. Out of curiosity, I tried once both types of backs on my Session+ with a short interval and did not like how'yak' IR band worked at all. I mean, it served it's purpose, but it just was not comfortable, so I removed it and forgot about it. The only 'pro' was that i could easily adjust it (using those 'yak' ratchets), thus, moving myself forward or backward. To do it with foam seat you'll have to cut and glue :(
My foam back rest is about 11cm height. But I beleive it really depends on one's anthropometry, peference etc

Cheers,
Kirill
