Up until about 2 seasons ago it was open boat only. Then I converted my X and started spending a lot of time in the C-boat. Last season I dry docked my Zoom for repairs and never got around to fixing it, so I have been in the C-boats only for awhile. I will never give up paddling OC, but C-1s are more fun.

knu2xs is right, a good padler can ride anything in any boat

I'm no good paddler and don't even know how to paddle a kayak. I can't stand double blades.
Just sometimes straight ahead on flatwater, but never find sitting on my butt very pleasant, C1 (and occasionally OC1 when I can lend a friend's boat) is it and just rocks a lot more

but hey, as long as you have fun on the water and feel the magic spirit it doesn't matter what you ride, just that you ride
it's gettin hot
I MAKE THE WATER BURN

blaze where I put my paddle

Interesting thing though, put a good C-boater in a kayak, and they will have no trouble, usually to the surprise of most kayakers standing around. However, put a good kayaker in a C-boat, and if they have no previous experience, this will prove entertaining for most standing around.

A perfect example of this, Benn Fraker (6th Beijing) jumping in a kayak at Nationals last year at ASCI. He didn't do bad at all. It was impressive.

I think that is true

I believe that to be generally true, and yet there seem to be accomplished C1 and even OC1 boaters who can easily roll their boats who have difficulty rolling a kayak.

OC to K1

Post by Jim P »

Yep the key to rolling the K! coming from the C world is getting used to the extra blade. It seems to get in the way at first. But if you developed a hip snap in an OC, a K1 will surface like a nuclear sub. :o
