Heard on the River...
From some random C-boater paddling Paul's Super Crazy Low Low Cut Acrobat:
" Man I'd love to paddle this sober!"

LOL!" Man I'd love to paddle this sober!"
Things I heard the other day on our local run :
"what kind of kayak is that?"
"You're on your knees in that thing?!"
"You can flip over? And roll back up? Show me!"
and
"OMG, you just attained that?! No way, not in a canoe!"
The first 3 comments were excusable, coming from a noob kayaker and should be treated with some compassion, like the kids on the short bus. But the latter was, albeit a kid, a rodeo hotshot who has paddled for a while and should have seen a few c-boaters by now.

Here are some of my favorites quotes from tourists in the Smokies:
"Where do you rent one of those?"
"Is the water swift?"
"Do the rocks go all the way to the bottom of the river?"
And my all time favorite...
"Does this river loop back around?" (meaning do you end up back where you started at the put-in)

when i am raft guiding, i frequently get the question,
"hey, why do the trees get taller the further they are from the river?"...
this of course was in reference to the fact that we were in a gorge and the trees were the same height just moving up the mountainside... my standard answer was always a follow up question,
"You must be from florida, right?"
9/10 times... yes, they were from florida.
Second favorite question, that I get now more than ever at the USNWC....
"wait... these rafts aren't on tracks?"
I still have no response for this one. I simply smile, then drop sideways into a class IV hole... lol

While at Twisted Sister on the LG as one of the squirt boaters dropped into the realm as raft went by and some of the customers started scream to go "help him" that he was in trouble and going to die.
The guide was paralyzed with snickering while we all had a heck of a time trying to stay up right with all the laughing going on.

You know that thought has crossed the mind of every squirt boater at least once - "this would be easier and more comfortable if I didn't have legs..."
