Why do people still paddle the long boats?

Decked Canoes, Open Canoes, as long as they're canoes!

Alright, I'll bite
The stabilty it offers makes havin a roll un necessary.
1) Yeah, that. Except having a stupid stable barge guarantees your bracing skills suck. Don't need 'em. You'll learn the importance of cross-bow and the 15 other strokes you'll need to avoid that rock, let alone make the darned thing turn. Makes going from a stable boat that doesn't want to turn to a less stable boat the doesn't want to track a very interesting learning opportunity.
The lenght of them provides a plausible excuse for not gettin a mirco eddy
2) What's a micro-eddy? I see these strange features small boats take a break in as I drift by, but I can't figger out what black magic is holding 'em there.
Makes people think you are too poor to get a modern boat
3) Reality bites.
People help you unload them to keep you from hurin your back
4) I'm stifling the laughter. What's this help you speak of? Chiropractors gotta eat too, right?
A boat that big keep you from havin to run the new harder runs
5) Nah, being hundreds of miles from real whitewater takes care of that. If you have some of the best whitewater in the country in your backyard, count your blessings.
Only used boat anyone would want to sale and you could find
6) See #3.
Scared to get on big water in a small boat
7) See #5. Those rumors about Ohio suck-boaters are all true...

...for now.
Makes butt boater not challenger you when goin for an eddy
8) Nah. It's an even better feeling when you cleanly pull your 14 ft. barge higher and tighter into the eddy than the last 3 playboat kayers just did. Ok, running them over is fun too.
You have a drinkin problem and can't carry enough beer in a newer design.
9) I ain't got no problem drinkin. Every drop of beer makes it to my lips.
You are a retro guy and don't want to move into this century.
10) Just trying to match the boat to my last century skills.
You might need a waterin trough for a mediun size herd of goats one day
11) Is that some kind of joke about my family?
You are a rebel and don't mind the ridicule of the boatin world

12) If I was trying to make some kind of strange fashion statement, I sure as hades wouldn't be in a canoe. Folks who don't like my choice of boats can s*ck it.
You like a shrinking single sticker community and want to discourage any new boater from tryin a canoe.
13) I'm pretty sure a stable long boat would be less frustrating to a newbie than plopping them in a Rodeo. Maybe new boaters really enjoy paddling in circles, I dunno.
If it was good enought for your grand dad it is good enough for you.
14) Gramps fought in a war, spawned 4 kids, raised 'em, built his own boat, lived to a ripe old age and passed on to following generations that other people's opinions are like @ssholes... Everybody's got one.
You think Sara Falin is hot and George W and Dork Chancys were smart and they paddle barges
15) ????
You know Milt won't put you in any of his videos in a new design.
16) I don't think it matters. I offer opportunities for him to capture carnage. Milt, care to produce a new feature called, "How Them Ohio Suckboaters Got Kilt"?
You didn't know Frankie.
Nolan and that Bob who guy are still your heroes
17) What the hades are you talking about? Bill Mason is still my hero.
Skill is skill. Learning is learning.
When you leave it on top of your truck it provides total UV and bird droppin protection for the finish on your truck.
18) What's the point? Bird crap is damned durable and covers the scratches n' rust quite nicely.
You would like to look as skilled as Jim Marchard does in a barge (You won"t)
19) I don't look half as skilled as a log drifting downstream most of the time. See #7. Have to start somewhere
