Snow Canoeing

We're in the middle of a great Nor'Easter in VT right now and it got me thinking about Snow Canoeing. I can remember taking my old Shenandoah ABS pigboat out and waxing up the bottom and flying down a 30 degree open hill in Washington, VT with it full of screaming delighted kids. We learned to turn it by leaning away from the way you wanted to go and got to the point where we made smooth s curves down the hill. It was a real drag, literally, to get it back up for another run but with an adrenaline juiced tribe, we would make several 300-400 yard runs in an afternoon. Other memorable snow canoeing included developing "otter slides" into the Mad River. The fun,(we were all former nordic ski jumpers), was finding or making just the right kicker to nose up your boat before it left the bank and hit the water, so you could have an otter run with good speed and not submarine in, although those who did provided great entertainment. Any other good snow canoeing stories out there. Snowbound in St. Albans with only too much shovelling to do.

Now we're talkin! Who has run the best drop in an OC in the winter and has video to prove it. Nice shots of a twice the paddle, half the man run though. (just like knuckle draggers and pinheads, we can coexist) Some, like AB, go both ways occasionally.

This explains a lot Pat, thank you. I suppose ya got that wildwater C-1 waxed up with some CH-8 ?

Snowboarders and Telemarkers-Two very different disciplines that play (Co-exist) on the same field, generally with the same kind of good natured ribbing that exists between canoeists and kayakers.

PS Kaz - I'll take you and your best on in a little snow canoeing sprint at Sonny's After the After Christmas Party. My canoe will have a stone ground finish and pattern that will put your skating skiis to shame. I hope HF8 is the way to go cause that'll mean its fairly warm. None of that CH crud, lets go with the $40/oz wax. A canoe should need what, maybe 5-6 oz to do right. But its the custom designed snowpaddle for a sprint that will determine who wins. Plus the MAN behind it. Better get practicing.
