I would love so much to argue Louie here... Unfortunately I think you pretty darn right.

But the thing that I find strange is that CJT mentionned the XL 13 to be "allright but too long" well if that boat was just close to OK for the type of boating you do... Then you'll definitely love a probe 12. Smaller and faster, not as edgy but fun and enough room for quite a bunch of stuff.

But if you are looking at steeping up and doing other types of rivers: smaller creeks then definitely look for a plastic boat. spanish fly, taureau, skeeter, quake etc.

No you never saw a picture of me in a Spanish Fly when they came out I was still on team Dagger and would never be photoed in anything but a Dagger boat. My boat progression

Ya what about it? Alum. boat, steel Falstaff cans, no helment or life jackets. Little Tennessee was undamned from Cjhillowee all the way to Lenoir City

Sure, the Slo-vation plows (who am I to argue with a guy who's done something with moulds), and the Probe isn't very crisp,...

but for a guy on a low budget who wants out of an XL13 and has to pick between the two: pick either, but just know there's funner boats for you to move into! And at your weight, you've got a lot of designs that will work for you, lucky B. So, save your pennies and in the meantime try as many boats as you can.

At least getting out of the XL13 is a step in the right direction. Have fun!

All three boats I have been looking at are within my price range and are within a reasonable driving distance. It seems all the open boaters here in Arkansas are boat hoarders

I know royalex isnt as durable as plastic but these are my only options at this time. Kind of want a new boat to before I head to nawfest

If the only currently affordable alternatives to an XL 13 are the Probe 12 and the Ovation, I believe I'd squirrel my money away until something better came along based on the goal to "step it up" (Viper 11, Ocoee, Detonator, etc.)

Keep an eye on that section of the board... people typically start selling used boats in spring... in other words... a month or so.

Oh, I get it now, the Ovation is your fault

Yes it is dog slow, it does not cut through the water it is like a bulldozer

But it is pretty forgiving, surfs easily and spins in a hole. One day I'll work out how it does this

I think the main problem is that as its slow you can struggle to make upstream moves, and you DO have to put a bit of effort in to engage the chines to carve sharp turns. But I'd still rather be in that for river running creeks than a 13ft boat and definitely preferable to an XL13
