I am the individual who unknowingly purchased Chipper's Boat.
Chipper and I have spoken this morning, and will send the boat back to the rightful owner.
I am trying to contact the individual who sold the boat to me, to try and get my money back to try and get everyone square. My hope he is ammenable and will take the high road.
It is good to note that the paddling community can aid in resolving situations like this.

Hi Paul,
Welcome to cboats.
Glad Chip got a hold of you, I'm sure he's thrilled to re-locate a stolen Ocoee. Hopefully it all works out for everyone!
However, I think you should tell Chip that you're holding his boat hostage, and he can come get it only when he & his WA friends come and paddle their canoes at the T50 slalom race in September!
Cheers, Pat.

This seems like a weird arrangement to me. Paul, who bought the boat not knowing it was stolen, should not take the loss if he can't recover the money from the seller. It would seem that Chipper should ultimately be responsible for the $150 Paul paid for the boat if Paul can't get the money back. I know I'd pay $150 to get one of my boats back and I'd thank the person who mistakenly bought it profusely.
Let's hope Paul can get the money back.
We had a case in Oregon where one of our club members had his boat swiped--a very distinctive chopped Mohawk Probe 12 with a spray skirt. The boat came up on Craig's List a year later and another member of our club unknowingly bought it. When I saw it, I told him whose boat it was. The original owner was more than happy to pay the sales price to get the boat back. They never confronted the guy who stole and sold the boat. Only $100 was at stake so they didn't seem to think it was worth the bother or risk.
