OC-1 opportunities near Salida, CO

Post by eubie »

Planning a trip out in July, staying near Northrop/Salida. Have some info on Brown's Canyon. Any info would be appreciated. I'm comfortable with III and III+ water. Willing to swim some IV with folks around to fish me out.

The arkansas river has a ton of opportunities on it. Brown's is a lot of fun, semi-technical class 3. There are several runs in the class 3 range. How long are you going to be here? I live near Durango but would be willing to come over and paddle with you. I'm sure there are others but if you look at this flow page: http://www.mountainbuzz.com/?page=flows, and click on the run name, there will be a little description about it. That site www.mountainbuzz.com, may be good to get hooked up with other boaters too.

We'll be out there for a week, but I'm pretty much tied to "the group" near Salida. I'll be happy to get one run in and anything else is gravy.
I'll probably be running a raft some and hanging with my family hiking, etc.
Thanks!

browns is great, but if you get time you might also check out Parkdale, or the fractions. if you are here in later july the water will probably be around 750cfs. that's a great level if you are looking to step up to the Royal Gorge or Numbers. I hope to be around the ark some this summer, PM me as your trip gets closer, I'd love to paddle with another Cboater.
