kimmie.... mathew is NOT in a lovable boat and IS paddling above his skill level, but he'll have fun anyway. both he and his dad, mark have a great attribute in their paddling skills - good attitude!
not to worry, you'll be all right. we've all had our first day on the "big O" got to start somewhere, and looks like a good group! (and if there is a surge, you won't know if it's 'pushy' or 'pushier' :D

Of course you'll do fine. I, on the other hand, wasn't in a lovable boat and was paddling above my skill level (which I still do, but I'm still having fun).
....and then you got (a) Fly!

Believe it not Phil I'm not talking about the times in the T@$#reau. :o Many years ago I really did swim just about every rapid on the Ocoee in one day. But I kept getting back in the boat and paddling a little farther down stream only to swim again. Actually I think by the time I got to hades Hole I didn't swim - out of sheer mentally telepathy willing myself to stay in the boat.

But you're right about one thing - you wanna be a better boater - buy a fly.

And oc1paddlr you're right it's all about the attitude. Great attitude = great time. Swims or no swims!

Yeah Kim, my boat doesn't love me yet, but she's coming around!

If it's miserable hot and I'm styling, I may have to swim on purpose...but we all know that won't be the case (me stylin').

I can't wait!

Maybe next time I can plan to come along. I make a good contestant in swim offs. My paddling skills - so-so, my swimming skills - excellent.

What's the scoop on the Ocoee put in? Did it change the rapid?

Cool, the more swimmers the merrier! I'll post back in this thread when we decide to head back.

sbroam - not sure if Grumpy's changed or not due to the rock slide.

Swim Off

GDI was well represented. Prbably 10 boats in 2 groups plus Louie and family in a raft. We were there too, 4 OC 1's. There seemed to be plenty of swimming but no keeping score.

Yeah you have to make the low ferry now (which can be done backwards... I know this. :-))

scott, not that much change in the river. the eddy at the ramp is smaller, the line to river left is lower, but easy to see.
