How far is it from Albany, NY? I have the weekend off and am looking to paddle.
If common sense were the prevailing wage, I'd always be broke.

Definitely want to go. How do you get a permit? Do you need a permit do do the Savage?

no permit needed, just be there. last time i did the savage, ASCI (Adventure Sports Center International), the whitewater park people in McHenry MD, ran shuttle with 2 of their vans to help reduce the number of cars at take-out.

Take-out is definitely an issue, so if ASCI is running shuttle, leave all your cars at put-in. They open up a special lot on release weekends on river left next to the dam for boater parking at the put-in. Please park there if its open, don't park at the natural flow put-in along the river.

I'm currently planning a trip to Maine this weekend to hit the Penobscot, Dead and Kennebec which has an 8,000 cfs release. If my plans change, I'll let everyone know and will be down to do the UY Fri, Sat and Mon and the Savage on Sunday.
