I noticed all the paddle strokes on the way down as well. That is top dog paddling . A big ole canoe low brace ain't gonna cut it. 100 bucks says Tommy would land that sucker sideways and upside down. But then, maybe not.... he could throw in some cross J jabs on the way down, you never know.

I also noticed JG was there, but not firing it up. Experience, age, wisdom, whatever you want to call it. Respect.

I have to disagree, though, about canoes being forgiving on flat landings, even though i know nothing about kayaking  . I landed my viper flat from just 15ft once and i tell you what, THAT F-ing HURT! I believe a c1 is more forgiving than it's kayak counterpart because of the posture and outfitting, yes. But I think displacement hull kayak would have to be way softer than a big flat bottomed canoe..not that it really matters on something that big.

If you're only worried about dying if you mess up a drop like that, you are dumber than we think. Dying would be easy! a more realist scenario is you end up paralized for the rest of your life and your mom has to spoon feed you baby food and wipe your butt for you. But hey, don't let me rain on your parade. :)

Fire it up. it 'll prove something for sure.

thats wut im sayin...if u mess up...best case scenerio is death... something to be said about the dude who ran that...sayin 'i got this'

I think the Volume of the boats would kind of be a negative....but then again...I'm sure ya'll saw how James W penciled in and shot back out of the depths in his l'edge.

You might not need to go down 20 ft... even 10ft is good ? idunno wtf do i know. i just wanna go fast!

Check this one out. It is a previous thread:http://www.cboats.net/cforum/viewtopic. ... eef5d85d89
Steve Frazier broke his back on this one, hence the name. Subsequently Jim Little cleaned it.

He's totally boofed out there....

I think the big advantage of the short creekers that r out there now is the fact that if you boof out you can correct it in mid air. Mid-Air correction is pretty important when ur dealing with the type of physics that are at work on such a drop.

True, but I've also knock the wind out of myself pretty well landing flat off a 15' drop in a kayak. If you land wrong (sitting up), any boat will hurt. There's technique in crashing. I've landed totally flat (sometimes stern down) off 30'er (in kayak) and not felt a thing. The key is to lean forward- the downside is that sometimes your face bounces off the deck (or your paddle if you're stupid enough to hold it in front of you... not going to make that mistake again). Of course if there's a big fluffy airbag there (and not a thwart).....

That one of those auto boof type spots. If you split it your good, if you don't your going to have a nasty ride/fall. I'd say in a oc1 it would be a lot tougher move. There's a good chance you'd have to finish your boof with an offside stroke to stay on line. As far as the landing looks like you'd have a hard time landing flat. Seems more likely you'll over rotate and hit face first if anything.

FYI

Jim Little did not clean the drop Steve broke his back on. There is a 40 ft waterfall at the bottom of the Elk. People often get them confused because multiple people have broken their backs on both drops some some people call both drops "compression falls" Jim ran the bottom drop (approx 40 ft) and he didn't clean it. He injured his back on the landing and didn't paddle for months after running that drop. I've talked to him about it.

Steve Frazier ran the top falls (approx 55 ft)

Shaggy also ran the bottom 40 ft drop in a superfly.

I ran the bottom 40 ft waterfall in january of 2010 in my prelude and plugged the landing. It was a lot bigger impact than the waterfalls in Mexico because the river is wide at that falls so the water gets spread out and the landing isn't as soft.

Both waterfalls are backbreakers if you don't plug the landing. There is a video of a Team Riot kayaker on youtube cleaning the top waterfall and then hurting his back and busting his face up on the bottom waterfall on the same day.

I think the prelude would be the boat for a drop like that. thing is like a dart when it plugs.

That seems to be the deal with the falls on the Elk... crappy aerration.

the 40fter....Just a big hit if you plug? That's the game at this point... is being able to 'take the hits'

Gotta respect the mindset. Thumbs up for this quote! :D

I'm just waiting for my track kids to get somewhere close to this attitude. They don't have to die trying, I would just like for them to at least TRY! :-?

Thank you, me too. Honestly all this McG talk has had me thinking about not reading this site anymore or going to ALF like I was planning so I don't have to hear him talk about himself and how unless you do stuff he has never done, like the Green Narrows, you aren't a man while making rude comments about women.

Why?
Let Tommy and dooley et al talk about it. Watch, be inspired to run your local class III even better!

You can be inspired by people without having to do it yourself.

Go to alf and have a hoot I say

Hey VANATE... DONT worry you won't be on the creeks i'm on.

great attitude by the way... ."OMG ALL THIS CLASS 5 TALK... I dont wanna play on Cboats anymore because of it."

u can sip ginger ale with ur buddys by the camp fire n talk about how much u enjoy the 'grace and elegance' of a canoe... and I'll be drinkin golden monkeys w/ my buddys. while we made rude comments amount anything and everything because we rnt lame n boring.

VAnate; come to ALF. There's plenty of nice class III/IV caoneist to paddle with and we don't drink ginger ale. We also don't intimidate or belittle people just because they aren't like us. IMO that is the common denominator for bigotry no matter what form it comes in. I, too have become more than a little disenfranchised with the trend in c-boats of late. But if I whine or quit the offenders win!
