Shipping ideas, please. . .

Any Boat, Gear, or outdoor related item you have for sale. If you use it on a paddling trip, or to prepare for one, it's fair game.

Shipping ideas, please. . .

Post by Pierre LaPaddelle »

Hey folks

I'd be grateful for some bright ideas about shipping boats.

I have a boat (maybe two) to move from the South-East to the North-West. (Exact points to be confirmed -- just looking for basic ideas here.)

1. Commercial shipping? Sources, rates, etc. Would love to get your recommendations.

2. If you're planning a road trip, and have room on the racks, I have gas money to kick in. Please PM me.

Thanks, Gang!

For plastic I've used Forward Air, shipping terminal to terminal, with good success and reasonable rates.

A friend of mine used Greyhound - cheaper but took longer.

Transport by fellow boater is definitely best. I've moved lots of boats for folks (sorry I can't help this time!) and have been honored to have quite a few moved for me to over the years.

Good luck!

I'm in Utah, traveling to ALF and I have room for two boats. If that works for you (I can store in my garage until you figure out the rest of the trip) let me know. I'm cheap. :)

Thanks, Adam, for the response -- I agree, and am always blown away by the willingness of fellow boaters to help out.

And thank YOU, Smurf, for your offer! Will stay in touch!!!

US Air will allow you to check 1 boat for $100 (see their special equipment page) but it can't be a small plane and probably should be direct flight. Don't box it - they freak out about the size.

Or if you aren't in a rush, several of us in the SE are coming to Nationals in CO in July. :-) Chipping in on gas $$ is guaranteed to buy space on a roof!
