The "old" Mohawk site used to describe "R84" as a replacement for the vinyl layer that had enough meaningful structural strength so that the ABS layers could be lighter. So if (as my puny research seemed to indicate) R-lite is not merely light Royalex, then the outer layer is not just sunscreen.
You ought to know. I only read what manufacturers (Esquif, Dagger, old Mohawk) said about it. Different terms, different materials?
